I am going to make this very, very clear since this issue is in the news. This blog enumerates the problem and does not provide or endorse possible solutions. And certainly not the solutions offered by one Scott Walker in Wisconsin.

Personally, I have a doctorate in a competitive field of work and my education could run rings around any teacher you could put in front of me. But as a teacher - at the college level - I can command only about 70% of what the median salaried teacher makes. Now, I would submit that I am grossly underpaid for my education, ability and overall credentials.
By that metric - Teachers in this area of the country are indeed overpaid. However, wishing the sweatshop labor that exists for many with doctorates on everyone else is engaging a race to the bottom.

What the Governor of Wisconsin is doing is WRONG and this blog is not condoning union-busting in any way, size, shape, or form. The unions lost a lot of my sympathy when they refused to look objectively at their salaries while everyone else was living in a blizzard of pink slips. But anyone who is not in the top 1% does not want to live in a world where the Scott Walkers of the world get their way. They will come for you and your salary next. If you think they won't you are deluding yourself. These people are hell bent on impoverishing the entire nation to enrich the top 1%.

So please do not use this post as a political football.

We pay more than twice the national average per student. Are our schools twice as good. They are not. The schools, the giant county bureaucracy, ask for yourself are you getting anywhere close to $20,000 in services for the privilege of living in this county???
I am not..

Is anybody listining - I guess not. How much can we be squeezed in the name of education - we cannot continued to be milked by teachers for their fat salaries and pensions. Enough is Enough. When do we save for ourselves
