Westchester Christmas Light Displays – Larchmont NY – (Fotos on the Fly)

Larchmont tends to be pretty understated and as I drove through the residential Larchmont P.O.  area late last Saturday night, there wasn’t much in the way of Christmas light displays to see in the residential areas.  I didn’t venture too far into the village because I was headed the other way – but I will take a look in that direction before the season ends.  I hit paydirt on North Chatswoth Ave.  So much so that it made up for the lack of lights elsewhere.   This area has several high-end cooperative and condo complexes – located in an ideal sweet spot that is within an easy stroll from the train and the town.  My listing on 21 N. Chatsworth Ave. is next door to the complex where I photographed this display.  The entire street is lit up with each complex having its share of lights.  For various reasons,  the other complexes had lovely displays that look great in person, but don’t lend themselves to photography….So enjoy what I have here and consider going in person to see the rest.   The display extends nearly one block, but I didn’t have a wide angle with me…As usual there is a link to a map below.

Westchester Christmas Light Displays – Tarrytown NY (Fotos on the Fly)

The Westchester Christmas Lights displays are now starting to “mature.”  Homes and businesses which were obviously works in progress last week have now bloomed into major displays.  Saturday night I came across a particularly strong Christmas display in Tarrytown NY on Route 9. It was at the front of the Reformed Church – which is in and of itself a Tarrytown monument.  Instead of the typical Creche scenes associated with churches, this particular display had a festive holiday twist to it.  I got off a couple of good shots (OK I’m trying to do better with night photography – it is a work in progress.)  But still – I think this captures the spirit of the display:

Bark & Meow of Tarrytown – All decked out for the holidays….

SacchiHigh end specialty retail is not limited to NYC.  Westchester has its share of unqiue boutiques and Bark & Meow of Tarrytown is the perfect place to find a great gift for your favorite canine or feline member of the family.   Laura Haupt, the owner has her two pets acting as the wecloming committee.  Juno wasn’t there the day I was but Sachi – the beautiful Shiba Inu was at the door welcoming me.   Like most Shiba’s, Sachi exudes confidence and was obviously delighted to see me…

The store is now decked out for the Holiday Season with toys and treats for dogs and cats. There is something for everyone here.  Cats have their own special boutique section while much of the store is dedicated to the needs of dogs.  Holiday collars abound – Jade, Tundra and Buddy are now sporting theirs.   Their are special Christmas treats for both dogs and cats.   There are even pure wool sweaters that are fully lined with holiday themes.  Laura also has a wide variety of dog and cat food which is all organic and you are sure to find a brand and variety that is best suited for your pet.

So take a break and stop by.  There is plenty to see and tons of choices with which to fill your pets stocking.

Bark & Meow is located in the heart of Tarrytown on Route 9  on Broadway just half a block south of Main St.   For store hours and more information call 914-524-7373

Larchmont Wine Store – Wine Tasters on Chatsworth Ave in the Village of Larchmont

Liquor LicenseTomorrow marks the 77th anniversary of the end of Prohibition.   This was one of FDR’s promises to the electorate and he was able to fulfill that promise  with  the ratification  of the 21st Amendment to the constitution.

Wine Tasters – a local wine store with an excellent selection in the heart of the village was there…way back in 1933.  And was ready for the legalization of alcohol with the 477th liquor license issued in New York State.  Since there have been only four owners since the store opened its doors back in the middle of the Great Depression – the license has been passed down from owner to owner and now sits on the counter at the front of the store.

Fotos on the Fly – Larchmont NY

Larchmont In FallFall is pretty much over, but here is a small reminder.  I snapped these photos in Larchmont NY  about two weeks ago – before the fall leaves fell from the trees.  The color was still vivid and the light at that time of say (around 4 PM) was ideal for taking pictures. I knew the leaves were teasing me.  Almost taunting me saying “We won’t be around much longer – you’d better hurry if you want some color.”

Larchmont NY is one of my favorite communities in Southern Westchester.  The neighborhoods are very, very walkable.  Commuting to the train is a snap – for most Larchmont NY homes in  the 10538 P.O.  the train station is within walking distance.  For those who do need to drive, parking the new parking facilities make things user-friendly.  Larchmont homes for sale are doing very well in this market and the area is experiencing a mini-housing boom which began at the beginning of 2010.

These photos were taken on North Chatsworth Ave in the Larchmont P.O. (unincorporated portion of Mamaroneck)  Its about half a block from the train station in a neighborhood known for its high-end cooperatives and condos.   This neighborhood sits right on the edge of a single-family residential area – also part of the Larchmont P.O.   The village proper is just to the south of the coop complexes.  It’s a great area, centrally located – with quiet streets.
