A lot of my clients and friends have been asking about kayaking on the Hudson River. And who can blame them? The Hudson is an amazing body of water for kayaking – the views – particularly in the early evening are nothing short of spectacular with the sunset views. But it is not for the faint of heart. Proper training is essential because the currents on the Hudson can be quite strong. Beautiful though it may be – it is not user-friendly.
Well, a few days ago, I came across a pamphlet a few days ago in Tarrytown NY about Hudson River Recreation.
They have been in business since 1998 and offer lessons in kayaking including kayaking fundamentals and rescue lessons. They also have supervised kayak rentals and guided tours. They have programs at Croton-on-Hudson, Sleepy Hollow, and Tarrytown among others.
Hudson River Recreation is a member of the organization called 1% for the Planet through which they have pledged a portion of sales to support non-profit organizations that have a focus on sustainability.
I’ve seen what I think is this particular group kyaking in Sleepy Hollow. The picture above is from Sleepy Hollow. I took it last summer at Kingsland Point Park at sunset – later I watched as the kayaks were taken out of the water and stored. It was quite an impressive site.
