People who turn their noses up at commuting to Manhattan from Westchester are denying themselves a far more affordable (and upscale) lifestyle that can be had for a very minimum of inconvenience. Metro-North is nothing like the subway. The 30 minutes I spent on the Metro-North train when I commuted to Manhattan were among the most productive of my day.
So while we are celebrating our super-long weekend waving our flags, enjoying the fireworks and praising America and American excpetionalism, we should take a long look in the mirror. What we are celebrating may be the America we knew, not the one that exists today. If you don't like what you see, then it is past time to think anew the meaning of patriotism.
